It looks like Samsung’s bid to take on Apple’s Siri among others might have to wait longer even if you buy the Samsung Galaxy S8 on the 21st of this month. Samsung’s Bixby (assistant) won’t be fully active when the device goes on sale according to Axios and in a statement, a Samsung representative said;
Key features of Bixby, including Vision, Home and Reminder, will be available with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 on April 21. Bixby Voice will be available in the U.S. on the Galaxy S8 later this spring.
That said, we now know that basic features like Reminder will be active when the Galaxy S8 goes on sale but there have been reports that Bixby needs more work before it can become a worthy competitor to the likes of Siri.
That said Samsung didn’t disclose this when it unveiled the phone late last month which begs the question, why was it hurriedly announced in the first place? One of the problems the “late” Note 7 had according to experts was Samsung’s rush to the market to beat Apple. It wasn’t that long ago before the launch of the latest phone and reports of Samsung making a profit have started surfacing.
Well Samsung is big player in the hardware space but in software, not so much but maybe that’s what they tried to change with Bixby. But for a feature that you can consider a major one, delaying it like this may not indicate that all is well.
