Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote

The executive secretary of the Nigerian Content and Monitoring Board (NCDMB); Engr. Simbi Wabote, has come out say that the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park currently being built would be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022. He made this statement after his inspection of the construction work at the project site. He made it known that after his assessment tour of the project site, a planned tour of the Board’s major projects (which includes the Oil and Gas Park) would be carried out by Timipre Sylva, the Minister for Petroleum resources. The Executive secretary made it known that during the Minister’s tour, he would visit the Board’s Oil and Gas Park projects at Emeyal 1 in Bayelsa state and Odukpani in Cross Rivers state for inspection. He also added that among the projects the Petroleum Minister is to inspect, is the Composite Gas Cylinder Manufacturing facility at Polaku.

Engr. Simbi Wabote was full of praise for the contractors. He praised them for a job well done and amplified the fact that the progress that has been achieved so far was within a short period of time. He also commended the contractors’ attitude to work. He described it as utterly impressive and was glad that as Nigerian contractors, they had broken all that was expected of them. Engr. Simbi Wabote made it known that the Board has always been acting with accordance with its patronage of local contractors and service companies.

The Executive Secretary revealed that the park when completed would be a low-cost production hub and will manufacture equipment components and spare parts that can be used by the country’s Oil and Gas industry for its production activities.

‘We did the groundbreaking ceremony in 2018 and we were practically inside the water; but today, we are seeing structures coming up. We still have a long way to go because most of the buildings are getting to the finishing stages while some are just starting. We believe that we will complete this project by Q4, 2022’, Engr. Simbi Wabote said. One benefit the park would bring upon its completion is replacing the need for the importation of finished petroleum products and equipment needed for its production.

The Oil and Gas Park which started with an opening ceremony on the 27th of April 2018, is about 68 percent complete with four major structures almost complete and foundation works on some other buildings already in the works. A 10 megawatts gas power plant was also provided to ensure stable power supply to the site and aside from that, the Board is very committed to building a water supply plant, piping network for water and sewage systems.

The Oil and Gas Park when completed would enhance the nation’s ability to take on technological innovations, create job opportunities and contribute positively to the nation’s GDP.
