According to recent confirmed reports, Apple has decided to embark on introducing new features to its AirPods Pro that will transform them into audio devices that also function as hearing aids. These anticipated features include a function that enable the devices to play different tones and sounds to assess the wearer’s abilities to hear sounds, a mode of operation that is somewhat similar to how the Apple Watch’s ECG feature allows it to detect problems with the heart.
In addition, Apple may also incorporate a component in the AirPods Pro so that it measures the temperature inside the wearer’s ear canal, so as to provide a more accurate assessment of the wearer’s body temperature. While the current Apple Watch models already possess this capability, the AirPods Pro’s temperature measurement data is expected to be more precise than the Apple Watch models.
In terms of design, Apple is said to be planning to replace the Lightning port on the AirPods charging case with a USB-C port. This move is in agreement with the company’s intention to ship the upcoming iPhone 15 with a USB-C port as well. However, it remains uncertain whether this update will be implemented at the same time with the other new features.
Tech reporter Gurman, known for revealing Apple’s product plans, has suggested that the AirPods Pro will be just as significant as the recently released AR headset, the Vision Pro.
In addition, while the AR headset has built-in speakers, it is expected to be more compatible and provide a more immersive experience when used in conjunction with the AirPods Pro.
By introducing these new features and improvements, Apple is looking to enhance the functionality and versatility of its AirPods Pro, positioning them not only as high-quality wireless earbuds, but also as a reliable and accessible option for individuals with hearing impairments.
