Motorola just released Android 11 for Razr, the flagship foldable smartphone that is currently powered by the previous Android OS. The Motorola Razr debuted in 2019 as the first-generation of Motorola’s foldable device powered by a much older operating system.
Meanwhile, other smartphones manufacturers have updated their gadget lineup with high-end technology to sweep customers off their feet, including Xiaomi, Google Pixel, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple.
Other smartphone brands such as Nokia and Motorola are still attempting to revive their nostalgic gadgets with newly tweaked experiences. For context, Google’s custom Pixel smartphones represent beta devices to test newly developed operating systems.
Remember the previous September in 2020, when Google rolled out Android 11 OS alongside its Pixel smartphones, Motorola also released the Reboot version for Razr foldable lineup alongside Motorola Razr 5G with the current Android OS. These Motorola foldable devices received Android 11 earlier than usual.
Both Razr Reboot and Razr 5G foldable devices got Android 11 as early as April. Still, the operating system was not approved for the first-generation of Razr foldable smartphones until now due to marketing schemes.
Per Motorola’s announcement, the Razr successors will have been out of the game by now if Razr’s first-gen foldable device got the Android 11 update in 2020. It will also interfere with the security contract Motorola debuted with its first-gen foldable Razr.
It is worth noting that Motorola assigned a two-year security update for its products built with high-end technology. Motorola’s promises were exclusive for newly developed smartphones. This explains why Motorola’s first-generation foldable device is just receiving the current Android OS.
For context, Razr received Android 10 as its first security update in 2020. Now, this Android 11 update for Razr ends the OEM manufacturer’s promises to look out for its product. While non-foldable devices got less encouraging security update deals on their devices.
Regarding the fact that business is business, Motorola’s foldable lineup is expected to fade away soon as Android 12 rolls out — supposedly in September 2021. Still, Razr foldable successors including Razr 5G and Razr Reboot are likely to maintain relevance in the future — probably one more security update will be available, Techbooky writes.
