Microsoft Offers Unlimited Access to Copilot Features

On Tuesday, Microsoft revealed plans to expand two new Copilot AI tool capabilities available to the free tier with unlimited usage. Voice and Think Deeper are the two capabilities that were just made available to all Copilot customers. Extended voice interactions and better reasoning for difficult inquiries are two ways that the upgrade, which started rolling out on Wednesday, seeks to increase Copilot’s capabilities. They were accessible, albeit, with a rate limit for those on the free tier. The IT giant with headquarters in Redmond is now lifting the pricing cap and granting all customers unfettered access to both products. Significantly, OpenAI’s reasoning-focused o1 model powers the Think Deeper function of the AI chatbot.

Microsoft has declared that all customers, even those on the free tier, will be able to access its Copilot features Voice and Think Deeper indefinitely going forward. Previously, only Copilot Pro members had unrestricted access to these functions. The upgrade represents a significant improvement in the functionality of Microsoft’s AI-powered technologies, which are incorporated into Windows and Microsoft 365, among other platforms.

The internet giant announced the lifting of the use restriction in a blog post. Since launching Copilot two years ago, Microsoft has been adding functionality to the AI-powered chatbot. Additionally, the business has included it into Microsoft 365 programs and the Windows operating system. Additionally, it has been posted on GitHub.

Microsoft recently announced in a blog post that it is removing the rate limits on its Copilot features, Voice and Think Deeper, allowing all users, including those on the free tier, to use these tools to their full potential. Since its launch two years ago, Copilot has seen substantial enhancements, with Microsoft consistently incorporating the AI chatbot into its ecosystem, which includes Microsoft 365 apps and Windows operating systems.

To date, the Voice and Think Deeper function was only available to Copilot Pro subscribers. All users may now utilize these tools without worrying about any rate limits thanks to the recent change. Notably, only the Copilot mobile applications now support the Voice mode. The web client is another way to access Think Deeper.

Previously, these functions were only available to those who have a Copilot Pro subscription. Everyone may now utilize the Think Deeper feature, which is accessible through the online client, and the Voice mode, which is presently exclusive to Copilot mobile apps. It is anticipated that this action would improve user experience and engagement with Microsoft’s AI products.

Users may have lengthy spoken chats with Copilot using the Voice function. It may be used for a number of useful tasks, such as learning a new language, getting ready for a job interview, or getting hands-free assistance when cooking.

The Advanced Voice option provided by OpenAI is comparable to the Copilot Voice option. The latter, however, still has a rate cap on the free tier, which is only a few minutes every month. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI declared on Wednesday that GPT-4o mini, rather than GPT-4o, will now power the Advanced Voice Mode in the free tier. According to the company, “free users will have the opportunity to preview it every day across platforms.” However, while OpenAI did not mention the new rate limits, it is unlikely to be unlimited. The details of the new pricing constraints are still unknown, though, which raises the possibility that OpenAI’s product won’t have unrestricted access.

Copilot’s Voice mode simulates human speaking patterns to provide a conversational engagement style. Pitch shifts, different tones, and even the ability to sing are all available to users. This function is intended to help with a number of activities, including hands-free culinary guidance, mock interviews, and language practice.

Microsoft claimed that this feature, which employs OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model, is helpful when users wish to comprehend a complex topic or want a deeper analysis of a technical report. The Think Deeper mode basically uses the test-time compute method and reasoning model and takes more time on a query to question the response, look for alternative solutions, and verify the output.

With the help of OpenAI’s o1 model, Think Deeper is intended to tackle more complex issues that call for sophisticated thinking. It may be used for things like analysing large purchases, calculating the cost of home remodelling, or choosing a career path. Microsoft recommends tasks including evaluating the advantages of purchasing a generator for regions that frequently have power outages, comparing electric automobiles according to their lifetime and style, or figuring out the best home renovation expenditures.

The Copilot Pro membership from Microsoft is still available in addition to these free capabilities. In addition to early access to experimental features and preferential access to the newest AI models during peak hours, paid customers will also get more capability in Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Microsoft has asked users to comment on Copilot’s features, saying that user input will help the AI tool get even better. The corporation has stated that expanding access is a top goal, but it has not specified when the additional functionality would be accessible to all users.

The purpose of the Think Deeper tool is to provide people a more analytical way to approach questions. This feature takes more time to evaluate queries using OpenAI’s reasoning-focused o1 model, which enables it to investigate potential answers and validate results. It is especially helpful for those who need in-depth technical report analysis or who want a deeper grasp of complicated subjects.
