Microsoft has officially announced the impending release of two new Windows Phone models. Stephen Elop, the company’s device chief, revealed this news at a Microsoft meeting. Interestingly, one of these devices has been colloquially referred to as a “selfie phone” due to its 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 4.7-inch display.
The selfie phone, originally given the codename “Superman,” is anticipated to become a popular choice among users. Alongside this, another device called “Tesla” was unveiled. Tesla is set to join the competitive high-end phone market while being cost-effective. It will feature a PureView camera, indicating Microsoft’s aim to bring PureView technology to more affordable devices. Drawing comparisons to the Lumia 930, Tesla is expected to boast a slimmer and lighter design.
This announcement strongly indicates that their launch is on the horizon. Microsoft has indeed recently hinted at the introduction of “other high-end products” in a memo from Jo Harlow. Together with this, Microsoft is preparing for the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 release, consisting of enhancements for subsequent devices. In related news, HTC has plans to release a Windows Phone variant of the One M8 on Verizon in August.
