A year ago, Threads was introduced as Meta‘s direct competitor in the microblogging space to Elon Musk‘s X (previously known as Twitter). Meta is looking to add a number of new features to the app as the platform keeps expanding. It appears that the social media behemoth is developing a new tool that will allow users to upload Instagram Reels straight to Threads. The new capability could be a component of Meta’s strategy to maximize content exchange throughout its app suite by enabling cross-posting functionality.
Since its launch, Meta’s Threads has experimented with cross-posting and showcasing Threads postings on a carousel in an attempt to capitalize on the network effects of its other social networks, Facebook and Instagram. A new tool that will allow you to post Instagram Reels straight to Threads is currently being tested by the social media giant.
According to developer Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a), Threads is exploring a new feature that will enable users to upload posts and Instagram Reels straight to Threads. According to Paluzzi’s screenshot, the drop-down menu on Threads now has an Instagram option in addition to the GIF, Voice, and Poll options.
A grid of Instagram posts and Reels will appear when you tap the new Instagram button in Threads’ write box. After that, users may select which posts and reels to share on Threads. According to reports, Meta told TechCrunch that it is testing the functionality.
Currently, a lot of users upload their Instagram Reels and posts to Threads in an effort to boost content interaction and expand their following. It is anticipated that the new button would increase user interaction and improve the visibility of information.
Notably, since last year, Meta has been promoting cross-posting from Instagram and Facebook to Threads. Facebook and Instagram Thread postings are already automatically shown. A test that allows users to cross-post photographs from Instagram to Threads is now underway. Because some users didn’t appreciate that their posts were being recommended to other users on Facebook and Instagram, Meta secretly introduced a way for users to unsubscribe from the recommendation system.
By sharing material across many Meta platforms, people hoping to increase their reach and improve engagement with followers may find this move appealing.
Meta has attempted cross-platform integration previously. It started experimenting with automated cross-posting from Instagram to Threads earlier this year. In order to improve the smoothness of content distribution throughout Meta’s app suite, a comparable capability was also being developed for Facebook.
Last year, Meta added a feature that made content from the platform show up in carousels on Facebook and Instagram in an effort to increase awareness on Threads.
Reactions to the change were varied, though, with some users feeling uneasy about their messages being suggested on other websites. Later, in response, Meta included an opt-out feature for users who did not want their work to be recommended elsewhere.
