Meta has taken a significant step in nurturing emerging content creators in Nigeria by introducing an innovative program named Creator Lab Live. This groundbreaking educational initiative brought together over 40 young and ambitious creators, offering them a real-world platform to learn and collaborate with industry experts and fellow creators.
Building on the success of the initial Creator Lab edutainment series unveiled in March 2022, this new iteration is designed to empower aspiring and up-and-coming creators as they navigate their career paths within the dynamic realm of content creation.
Structured workshops were an integral part of the program, providing participants with valuable insights into crafting captivating content, expanding their online communities, and effectively utilizing the suite of Instagram’s available tools.
Moon Baz, the Creator Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey at Meta, expressed her enthusiasm for the launch of Creator Lab Live in Nigeria. She highlighted the unique nature of this initiative as a pioneering endeavour by Instagram to bolster the growth of emerging creators on the platform.
The decision to launch this initiative in Nigeria is well-founded, given the country’s vibrant creator ecosystem that wields a substantial global cultural influence. The program aims to provide invaluable support to these creators on their creative journeys and professional trajectories.
As part of Meta’s commitment to empowering creators across its platforms, this initiative aims to cultivate a robust home base for creators to foster communities, develop diverse content formats, and harness creative tools, thus shaping the landscape of digital content and experiences.
Throughout the program, Rofhiwa Maneta, Strategic Partner Manager for Creators in Sub-Saharan Africa at Meta, imparted practical tips and profound insights to creators, helping them enhance their content creation prowess. He shared best practices for optimizing Instagram’s tools and underscored the significance of adhering to community standards to ensure creators’ safety. Monetization strategies leveraging Meta technologies were also explored, enriching creators’ understanding of potential revenue streams.
An inspiring facet of the event was the call for creators to participate in the #PositiveVibesOnlyChallenge. By encouraging creators to craft content centred around optimism, the challenge aimed to spread positivity, contribute to a better world, and motivate others to produce uplifting content on the Instagram platform.
An engaging fireside chat was another highlight of the program, delving into the topic of maintaining relevance within the creator space. Panelist Amarachi Amusi (ashmusy) emphasized authenticity, consistency, and creativity as pivotal factors for success on Instagram. She reflected on the enriching experience of collaborating and learning with fellow talented creators in Nigeria and underscored Instagram’s role as a hub for fostering communities that foster growth. The Creator Lab’s emphasis on leveraging Instagram’s features to create unique, concise, and entertaining content resonated deeply with the ever-expanding online community.
