Meta the giant of social media owner of Whatsapp is at it again with new features for the business owners on the social network. Through WhatsApp’s updates page, Meta has released a suite of new monetization tools designed to assist creators, companies, and organizations in reaching a wider audience and making money. A new development that helps businesses and creators may now directly profit from their content on WhatsApp thanks to new monetization tools.
The internet giant announced the launch of three major features in a statement on Monday: Promoted Channels, Ads in Status, and Channel Subscriptions. The platform stated in a blog post on Monday that the capabilities will only be available on the updates tab, which contains channels and status information.
The statement states, “Today we’re introducing some new features for our Updates tab, which is home to both Channels and Status.”
“Only the Updates tab, away from your personal chats which can be private, will these new features be visible.”
One of the new features is channel subscription, which lets viewers pay a monthly fee for unique content and support their favourite creators.
Additionally, the business introduced “Promoted Channels,” a technology that enables admins to increase their visibility by showing up as suggestions when users browse the channel directory.
Ads in Status, the third feature, will incorporate ads into the status area to allow companies to advertise goods and services and engage in direct engagement and conversations with people who are interested.
These changes are a part of WhatsApp’s larger effort to facilitate business operations without compromising users’ private messaging experiences.
WhatsApp stated that limited information, including a user’s location, language, and interactions inside the Updates page, will be used for ad targeting.
For years, we have been discussing how to use WhatsApp to develop a business without interfering with personal and private conversations. We think the best place to introduce that is under the updates tab,” Meta said.
The business claims that users who connect their WhatsApp to Meta’s accounts centre might also get advertisements based on their usage of Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta platforms.
The business emphasized that private calls, groups, and conversations are still encrypted from end to end.
We’ve developed these features in the most private manner possible, just like we do with everything we do at WhatsApp. End-to-end encryption is maintained for your private calls, messages, and status updates,” WhatsApp continued.
Additionally, the business stated that advertising will not receive personal messages or phone numbers.
Users can now purchase exclusive updates from their preferred channels, which include news organizations, content producers, and sports teams, for a monthly price through Channel Subscriptions.
With the help of Promoted Channels, WhatsApp will be able to suggest channels to users based on their interests, giving businesses and artists a paid tool to increase their visibility and audience on the app.
Similar to Instagram Stories ads, status ads will allow companies to insert tailored advertising within the status function, letting users find goods and services and communicate with marketers directly.
Meta reaffirmed that end-to-end encryption is maintained for all private messages, calls, and group chats, demonstrating that the new capabilities were created with privacy in mind.
“We’ll utilize limited information, such as your country or city, language, the channels you follow, and how you engage with the advertisements you see, to display ads in status or channels you might find relevant.
We will also use the data from all Meta accounts and the ad preferences of those who have decided to link WhatsApp to the Accounts Centre. But we will never give your phone number to advertising brands or sell it to them,” it stated.
The additions will be released progressively over the next few months, according to Meta. Additional information is already available through official WhatsApp Business resources for channel administrators and companies interested in implementing the features.
