Mecho Autotech has been on the list of African startups to get Y Combinator’s endorsement to accelerate developmental growth past its startup phase. Mecho Autotech closed its seed round with $2.15m reserved for expanding its operations across the continent.
Mecho Autotech is a digital auto mechanic platform that also serves as a dealership per users’ discretion. The Nigerian auto mechanic startup operates as a multi-tasked automotive network that connects vehicle maintenance providers with car owners for possible repairs.
Mecho Autotech is an expert in vehicle maintenance as a service whereby the auto mechanic platform is a channel designed to network skilled third-party maintenance providers with potential car owners.
Mecho Autotech already budgeted the $2.15m seed it raised from investors, including, Y Combinator, Tekedia Capital, Cathexis Ventures, Future Africa, Silver Squid, etc. to expand both its business-to-customer and business-to-business services modified with professional engineers equipped with high-end tools to bolster the capacity of its digitized auto mechanic startup.
Mecho Autotech needs to be completely equipped and competent as a B2B or B2C auto mechanic channel to attract more car owners to be fond of its maintenance solutions as they set to commence viral marketing. The Nigerian auto mechanic startup seed fund also covers its marketing scheme budget to promote its Autotech brand.
Mecho Autotech is developed as a channel for mechanics to connect with car owners by two Nigerians, Ayoola Akinkunmi and Olusegun Owoade. “Mecho Autotech is a network of vetted technicians across 35 states out in Nigeria to tackle the poor vehicle maintenance culture in Nigeria,” Owoade said.
Mecho Autotech addresses the hiccup in the Nigerian automotive marketplace where 80% of vehicles plying the road are used by anonymous foreigners with a minimal chance of acquiring insurance coverage. Likewise, vehicle maintenance is entitled to new cars issued by the manufacturer.
There is an insatiable means for ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance solutions existing in Africa.
The current state of Nigeria mandates car owners to either use local (roadside) mechanics or organized mechanics to keep up with auto maintenance. This means of Autotech is less expensive than getting served by OEM mechanics that are officially backed by manufacturers.
It is a no-brainer that OEM mechanics are expensive to patronize per the quality service they render. OEM mechanics are preferential to servicing cars that are bought new and covered with insurance rather than accept used cars with possible default yet to reveal its impact.
“We also created an insurance plan because we know that motor insurance is compulsory.” Mecho Autotech is a platform for affordable car maintenance services that is also optional for insuring vehicles, be it new or used. “So if we have an insurance plan that has an annual maintenance plan embedded, it’s more or less substituting this for the after-sales package people with brand new vehicles typically get.”
Mecho Autotech got into Y Combinator’s AUM project during the previous 2021 summer batch. The Nigerian auto mechanic startup has accelerated its services with thousands of third partied mechanics operating in its B2B and B2C channel. Y Combinator’s interference with the Mecho Autotech influenced other capitalists to raise the seed round.
