Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has stated that AI features will be available very soon. A recent article from AppleInsider provides additional information about what may be included in the upcoming iOS release. Siri, who will supposedly be able to analyze and summarize texts within the Messages app, will be one of the main highlights.
According to a previous report by AppleInsider, Safari in iOS 18 would include a similar “Intelligent Search” function that will let users summarize webpages. These functionalities will be powered by Apple’s large language model (LLM), known as Ajax. Apple has indicated in several papers that it is developing on-device AI processing for the iPhone; the story from AppleInsider further supports this
As reported in the paper, Ajax may need to communicate with a server to retrieve replies for more complicated requests, but it can employ on-device processing to produce simple responses. Apple is looking at partnerships with Google and OpenAI to assist bring AI to the iPhone & that’s where they might come in.
Privacy is another expected focus of Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) features. Apple is reportedly going to display privacy warnings before Ajax using data from Messages or Safari, according to AppleInsider. Cook stated that Apple continues to “feel very bullish” about AI and that the company will shortly be sharing some “exciting things” during Thursday’s earnings call. In addition, he mentioned Apple’s “advantages,” such as its “unwavering focus on privacy,” which will make the company’s AI features stand out.
By Tuesday is hosting an event whereby new iPads are likely to be revealed. Likely, Apple won’t discuss its AI aspirations until June 10th at its Worldwide Developers Conference.
