Mac by Apple has been widely regarded as a safer alternative to personal computers in terms of data breach, identity theft, warding off malware and what not. But all of it does not mean that your computer is all safe and totally protected from everything. In the end it is also a machine and has its own flaws, there are a lot of malware and other threats which can potentially attack your system and threaten your data and privacy. Though the company has been working hard and innovating on security there still seems a long way before total privacy can be achieved. So in this article, I am going to share with you some tips on how you can protect Mac from threats. Have a look:

Protecting Mac From Threats

Keep your Mac Updated

The updates, patches and new releases on the software and operating systems are important as they not only get you new features and capabilities but they also help fix bugs and other issues with the previous version. So when you begin updating regularly, your computer becomes more and more compatible with the new software and their updates. Similarly when you keep your software updated it makes them compatible with current OS which also avoids crashes, freezing issues and performance lag. The updates also carry security patches that enable your computer to fight with common known threats.

Use a VPN service

VPN or virtual private network is a technology that helps you stay anonymous even when connected to a public network. The service provider routes the signals to and from your device, via its own server. Using VPN service can have many great benefits, you can stay hidden from hackers, and no prying eyes can trace you, no organizations to track you, safety from identity theft and so much more.

Use Two-Factor Login

You must have already used two-factor authentication in many other communities and on different websites. Mostly it can be seen on social media and other secure places where you have put in your important and personal data. Two-factor authentication ensures enhanced protection, better security even when your password or credentials have been compromised and much more. You can find two-factor authentication in iCloud and iTunes.

Store Files in FileVault

There is an embedded application in your Mac’s Operating System by the name of FileVault. The FileVault is a place where you can put your files safely and securely behind a password. So even if someone has access to your computer, he will have access to the password too before he or she is able to access the files. You can choose to keep all your important files, folders, media, bank documents, etc. here. You can find the FileVault in System Preferences >> Security and Privacy >> FileVault >> here simply click on “Turn on FileVault” to activate this feature. You can also use iCloud to reset the encryption and get your files back if you wish to take them out.

Install a good Antivirus

Antivirus software comes under utility programs and hence is designed to help the users in maintaining their systems and protect Mac from threats. Investing in powerful software can protect your computer from viruses, malware, trojan, worms, spyware, adware, and whatnot. Some powerful ones can even help you delete a web browser’s history, cache, cookies, duplicate files, startup apps, enhance performance, get rid of lag, make storage space, take care of disk health and so much more. Now there is only this one little problem which makes it hard for the users to take care of their MAC. There is an abundance of choices; there are hundreds of companies which are out there working hard and all claiming that their product is the best. Finding the right one can be as tough as finding a needle in a haystack. And it can be pretty time consuming, considering we are always short on time. You can learn more about antivirus solutions and if you’re torn between two brands, say Norton Vs Avast, you will be able to make the right choice eventually.
