Lenovo Unveils Two Gaming Laptops And A Smart Home Assistant Device That Runs On Amazon’s Alexa

Lenovo has New Year gaming laptops out for you. Called the Legion Y520 and the Legion Y720, they will be available from February and April respectively. As for pricing, they cost $899 and $1,399 respectively. Now to why or not you should buy the laptop, here are key specifications for your consideration;

Y520

The Lenovo Legion Y520 starts from $899
The Y520 has a red backlit keyboard

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 processor (latest 7th-gen Kaby Lake)
  • RAM: up t0 16GB
  • Storage: 512GB SSD with a 2TB hard drive
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU
  • Display: 1080p
  • Size: 2.4Kg
  • USB: Three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a VGA port, a DisplayPort, and an audio jack.
  • Battery: 60Whr battery that should allow you get up to 5 hours of power on a singke charge

Y720

The Lenovo Legion Y720 starts at $1,399
It features an optional RGB keyboard
The Y720 is also VR compliant

Same specs as the Y520 only it has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU graphic processor. As for display, it gives you the option of choosing between a 1080p and 4K resolution. It also supports you watching videos in virtual reality because it features Lenovo’s Entertainment Hub app.

Screen size: 15.6-inch

Let me add that you don’t get to see many laptop under $1,000 featuring the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU.  

Lenovo Home Assistant

Besides the gaming laptops, Lenovo also revealed that it would be officially announcing a smart home speaker called Smart Assistant which uses Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

It starts at $129 and comes in three colours. Harman Kardon model costs an extra $50

With this, they join Microsoft, Amazon and Google in launching a home assistant only it is sort of partnering with Amazon. The device costs $129 and looks very much like Amazon Echo. It comes in gray, black, green, and orange colours and is cylindrical in shape. The speaker features eight 360 degrees noise and echo cancellation, far-field microphones which allow you interact with the device which means that it can hear commands up to 16 feet away and unless you live in one of those gigantic houses, this should pretty much cover most of our houses. You can get the Harman Kardon (the audio company) model for an extra $50 for better sound and that’s it. Microsoft announced last month that it was partnering with Harman Kardon to launch its own smart home assistant using Cortana of course.
