Google Co-Founder Larry Page Backed Flying Taxi “Cora” Flies In New Zealand

We first learned back in 2016 that Google founder and Alphabet (Google’s parent company) Larry Page had two “flying car” extends underway, but there was no official statement at the time until we started hearing about tests last year, today it’s a great opportunity to meet Cora. The “air taxi” created by Page’s Kitty Hawk startup, the electric flying “car” is planned for use as a major aspect of a transportation benefit rather than deal to singular users (probably because of the regulations and infrastructure that may come with such innovations). It’s worked to utilise self-flying programming, and uses 12 lift fans for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) like a helicopter, so there’s no requirement for a runway.

In the air, Cora is able to move at about 177Km/hr at about 3,000 feet. The air craft has three free flight-PCs and can keep operating just fine regardless of whether one goes down, while every rotor works autonomously and just in the event that things truly turn out badly the plane has a parachute for arriving without its fans.

In a blog post by Cora, they said “After almost 8 years of engineering, re-engineering and re-re-engineering, we had done it. We had designed an air taxi, affectionately named Cora that could take off like a helicopter and transition to flying like a plane. The possibilities were limitless.”

On why they have chosen New Zealand, they said “We quickly realized that there was only one place in the world that had everything we needed — Richard Pearse’s New Zealand. New Zealand’s Central Aviation Authority has the respect of the worldwide regulatory community. A people who embrace the future. And a dynamic economy that could serve as a springboard for Cora.”

Well Richard Pearse was a New Zealand farmer and inventor who has been credited with some ground breaking experiments in the aviation field and as the Cora blog puts it, as the Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk, North Carolina took to the skies, Richard Pearse in the same year had a breakthrough of his own. In essence he is being honoured.

New Zealand according to them has friendly regulations that make it easier to carry such test and now they have received a test endorsement at the highest levels in the office of the Prime Minister.

We first knew the company to be called Zee.Aero but now it’s Zephyr Airworks and it is Kitty Hawk’s operator in New Zealand.
