Google Search is arguably the biggest search engine by usage globally at the moment. According to Statista, Google Search accounted for about 84 percent of all total search engine traffic in 2022 with Bing coming in at a distant second with about 9 percent of the market and Yahoo at a third with 2.5 percent. We have always known this and so governments and users alike have questioned Google’s search dominance across the world. Players like Bing, Yahoo, Yandex and Baidu all share the 15 percent market share and some think this is because Google may be engaging in anti-competition practises.
But Google Search is quite simple to use and provides a broader range of results than its competitors and let’s face it, that’s the company’s main line of business and it only makes sense that they dominate in this area. Google only started diversifying into other services in a little over a decade ago since its launch in 1998.
Today Google’s parent company Alphabet is has a market capitalisation of over a trillion dollars and dominates the online adverting space with a 29 percent market share.
Google is big no doubt and that’s when ChatGPT by OpenAI launched, it became the talk of the town. It got over 1 million users in just five days and has kept growing till date. It has grown to the point that its developers are now launching a premium/paid version to allow for usage control of some sort.
The interesting way it works attracted professionals and ordinary users alike to the new technology which many touted as the Google competitor we have all waited for. Microsoft, the developers of Bing search engine and a major Google competitor quickly jumped on the news by announcing investments and other forms of support and saying it would integrate it into its Office suite immediately. Some reports have it that Google insiders are somewhat rattled by the new technology and that they had called in “heavy weight” founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to step in so they can together take on the world search darling ChatGPT.
But can ChatGPT really take on Google even though some Google engineers contributed code to its development ? ChatGPT is chatbot effectivel and Google is a web search engine but here are the key differences between the services.
Key Differences Between Google And ChatGPT
ChatGPT and Google Search are two different tools that are used for different purposes.
ChatGPT is a language generation model that is trained on a large dataset of text. It can be used to generate text based on a given prompt or input. It can also be fine-tuned to perform tasks such as language translation, question answering, and text completion. It can generate human-like text, but it might not be accurate or relevant for the specific task, since the quality of the output depends on the quality and the size of the training data.

On the other hand, Google Search is a search engine that crawls the internet to index web pages and then returns the most relevant results for a user’s query. Google Search uses a complex algorithm to determine the relevance of a web page to a user’s query. The algorithm takes into account factors such as the relevance of the content on the web page, the authority of the website, and the number of external links pointing to the website.
In terms of speed, Google Search is faster than ChatGPT, since it searches the indexed web pages and returns the result in milliseconds, while ChatGPT generates text based on the input which might take longer.
When it comes to accuracy, Google Search is generally considered to be more accurate than ChatGPT, since it returns results that are relevant to a user’s query, whereas ChatGPT’s output may not always be accurate or relevant. However, ChatGPT can generate more creative and diverse text, while google search mostly returns web-pages that match the user query.
In terms of usability, Google Search is designed to be simple and easy to use, with a user-friendly interface that allows users to quickly find what they are looking for. ChatGPT, on the other hand, requires a certain level of technical knowledge to use effectively.
In summary, ChatGPT and Google Search are two different tools that are used for different purposes. ChatGPT is a language generation model that can be used to generate text, while Google Search is a search engine that provides relevant results in response to a user’s query. Both have their own strengths and can be used in different ways depending on the task, but Google Search is generally considered to be more accurate and faster, while ChatGPT can generate more creative and diverse text.
In conclusion, ChatGPT is an interesting technology tool with the potential to change the way we do things by helping speed up tasks and help with some complex tasks but Google search engine does well more than this may not be going anywhere any time soon.
