Kenya Power unveils its corporate scheme to drive a massive electric vehicle and its charging station in the central capital of the state, Nairobi.

The East African sole power distributor is keen to frontier the transition from vehicles running on fossil fuels to embrace renewable energy likewise converting its premium motor-spirit-related resources to distribute more renewable energy stationed in Nairobi in the next four years.

EVs are made of high-end technology likewise installing EV chargers to keep the vehicle fuelled with either electricity or solar power. These two option is an optimal renewable energy sources to stabilize EV penetration in East Africa.

However, just as Kenyan Power — the electricity distributor makes the electricity supply abundant, Kenya Power intends to diversify its source of energy supply with advanced clean energy — especially solar power systems to replace premium motor oils such as petrol and diesel.

The majority of the Kenyan population receives electricity supply from Kenya Power which makes this announcement a significant move for the electricity supplier to innovate East Africa with EVs, starting from its local market.

Kenya Power’s clean energy transition initiative was unveiled during the in-house conference the electricity supplier hosted, themed “E-Mobility Stakeholders Conference” posing as an IPO scheme to execute the project.

“Charging electric vehicles, especially at night would, therefore, help bridge the gap between off-peak load available generation capacity as well as raise the average demand to above 1.5GW.”

The E-Mobility initiative by Kenya Power aims at leveraging up to 90% of local renewable energy mishmash to mark up 100% clean energy during off-peak hours.

According to Kenya Power, the stakeholder’s conference will assemble technology partisans, policymakers, Kenya Power energy resources, and other financiers to accelerate the E-Mobility campaign in East Africa.

The stakeholder’s conference will commune and conglomerate domestic resources to build an ecosystem that will deploy EVs and charging stations to accomplish an e-mobile Kenya.

The electricity supplier intends to transition fossil fuel-enabled vehicles and install massive charging stations in Nairobi, utilizing the excessive electricity supply locally per users’ bill.

The Kenyan Power E-Mobility campaign will start by substituting mechanical engines with electrical engines which will ditch the use of premium motor spirit after four years. The E-Mobility will continue its campaign to import more EVs in Kenya to balance the scale of availability of EVs in the country.

The availability of EVs in Kenya is the primary approach towards accomplishing the E-Mobility campaign. This makes the EV charging station installation as significant as a fossil fuel station to power e-vehicles.

The Kenyan electricity supplier’s dedication to its campaign is to install high-end EV chargers with more than 3.3GW which is suitable for EVs that demand 2.1GW capacity or 1.5GW capacity which is ideal to be efficient during night hours.
