For all eligible iPhone models, Apple has released the seventh developer beta of iOS 18.1, which includes an odd cosmetic change.
The iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 7 update includes improvements for the Files app, StoreKit, Swift 6, Siri, and Spotlight.
On Monday, Apple released the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 7 update for the iPhone. The majority of the features in the most recent upgrade are carried over from earlier iterations, and there are no noteworthy additions. This includes Apple Intelligence — the company’s suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features such as writing tools, object removal in images and web page summarisation. It also fixes bugs discovered in previous updates, most notably on Apple’s new iPhone 16 series.
The main cosmetic alteration, which was first noted by Apple Insider, is that while the phone is in tinted mode, the clock widgets will appear somewhat transparent. Although it doesn’t seem like much at first, the widget’s colour is slightly altered to better blend in with the backdrop.
The build number for the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 7 update is 22B5075a, according to Apple’s release notes. It offers a fix designed especially for the iPhone 16 model. An issue that caused the system memory to crash when installing an app with a capture extension when another Camera Control app was already chosen has reportedly been fixed, according to Apple.
It also resolves a lock screen problem that was causing Spotlight to malfunction when it was pushed down. Apple brought rich communication services (RCS) to the iPhone with iOS 18. However, after switching SIMs, a flaw in the upgrade was found that prevented attachments from being sent using RCS. The most recent upgrade from the Cupertino-based company also resolves this problem.
Additionally, there are adjustments for the Files app, StoreKit, Swift 6, Siri, and Spotlight. Notably, only developers who have enrolled through the Apple Developer program may get the update. Similar upgrades have also been made available for the iPad and Mac by the iPhone manufacturer.
Several Apple Intelligence capabilities are the most significant addition to the iOS 18.1 beta overall. It will be the first Apple AI capabilities to show up on compatible iPhones, even if it isn’t all the features—we anticipate Genmoji and others to emerge with iOS 18.2. AI features including writing tools, a Photo Clean-up tool, and the ability to make memory movies in the Photos app are all included in the iOS 18.1 public beta.
Later this month, iOS 18.1 will be made available for iPhone. According to a source, on October 26, Apple could release its most recent operating system upgrade containing Apple Intelligence capabilities. It will work with all iPhone models, including the most recent iPhone 16 series, which got the iOS 18 upgrade last month.
It gives the home screen a little more consistency, even though it isn’t as transparent as we could have preferred. There hasn’t been much of a change other than a slight aesthetic enhancement to the widgets.
However, iOS 18.1 is introducing a few other new features, so it’s not only AI that is changing. To add a new main email address to your Apple Account, for example, you may do so without having to repeat the verification procedure.
The update will also allow for a notification summary to appear on your paired Apple Watch, making it much easier to know what has been sent to you at a glance and assess what your next action will be.
While there aren’t many significant changes in iOS 18.1’s seventh developer beta, there are some intriguing additions and adjustments for the astute user. For the time being, we can only wait for iOS 18.1 to be officially released to find out what features some of the greatest iPhones on the market will have.
However, only the iPhone 15 Pro models and every iPhone 16 series device will have access to Apple Intelligence capabilities.
