American technology company Intel has suspended all of its operations in Russia following the still ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The suspension of its operations in the Putin-led country comes a month after the company halted shipments to customers in Russia and Belarus. The company suspended its shipments to Russia and Belarus after Ukraine urged cloud computing companies such as Intel and IBM to disassociate themselves from Russia.

In a statement, the company issued it said that “Intel continues to join the global community in condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine and calling for a swift return to peace.” The company also emphasized that it will provide for its 1,200 employees in Russia as well as set business continuity measures in place so as to minimize the disruption its decision would cause to its overall operations.

Russia depends hugely on Western technologies. Companies and government agencies rely on technology developed in Western countries for the technology they own and operate. Servers from IBM, Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. are market leaders in Russia.

Other global companies have also taken actions against Russia, either halting their operations, sales or shipments to the country. Some technology companies that have either halted product sales or stopped operating in Russia after it invaded Ukraine include Apple, General Electric, Adobe, AMD, etc.

Payments giants Visa and Mastercard, last month, cut Russia from their networks. Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store removed state-owned media outlets Sputnik and Russia Today from their platforms. PayPal also cut out Russia from its network. Airbnb, which is providing refuge for Ukrainians who need it also suspended its operations in Russia. News outlets CNN, ABC, and the BBC also suspended services in Russia in response to a Russian law that’s against foreign media operating in the country.

Other global companies that have suspended operations in Russia include Netflix, Disney, Spotify, Sony, Warner Bros, Microsoft, Oracle, Nike, Adidas, Puma, IKEA, etc.
