The Rwandan government has assented to the University of Tourism, Technology, and Business Studies (UTB) bid to standardize living via the Innovative Digital Platform (INNODIP) projected to eradicate unemployment in the country. The UTB projected the INNODIP to commence with immediate effect, but the paperwork involved has scheduled December 2023 for its debut.

This report denotes that beneficiaries will have access to the employment program by 2024 since opening books of accounts at that time is optimal to include additional workforce at the beginning of the business year. The INNODIP employment initiative has an intertwined interest system whereby the UTB projected to aid the Rwandan government generate millions of job opportunities accessible to skilled and unskilled populations.

For context, as of February 2023, Rwanda’s unemployment rate stood at 17.2%—792,115 individuals (19.3% women vs. 15.5% men)—according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, underscoring the urgent need for targeted job-creation initiatives

The availability of employment in the country will bolster the local economy to experience GDP growth as a reflection of the INNODIP employment initiative by consolidated interest. The INNODIP project director, Prince Wasajja Kiwanuka confirmed the simplicity of the program which has a website developed for applicants and project management by the administrators.

Kiwanuka said the employment program “will leverage web-based technology and interface to enable easy access and data entry for all users, including job applicants, industry stakeholders providing recommendations for curriculum revisions, and internship opportunities, while ensuring high-level data protection.”

Kiwanuka also said that the web-based platform of the employment program will improvise and focus on simplicity to attract more applicants via mobile app development. The mobile app development will accelerate the INNODIP penetration into the underserved geographic location in Rwanda that also serves as a digital inclusion via emerging technology to eradicate unemployment.

Platform functionality:

  • Job matching & data collection: Job seekers can upload profiles and CVs, while employers and industry stakeholders post vacancies, suggest curriculum revisions, and list internship opportunities.

  • Unified web and mobile interfaces: A companion mobile app will facilitate broader access, especially in rural and under-served areas.

  • High-level data protection: Built-in security measures ensure personal and institutional data remain encrypted and compliant with privacy standards.

Aside from driving financial inclusion posing as an innovative digital inclusion, the program also has a significant commitment that involves impacting the natives of Rwanda with emerging technology. The INNODIP empowerment scheme is a consolidation of both the socialist and the capitalist market to bolster its economic growth and ensure it wisely manages its natural resources to ease the transition to green energy.
