Three new AI-powered services have been introduced by IFTTT, a productivity tool that gives users the ability to automate tasks across different apps and devices. Users who sign up for the $5 monthly Pro Plus membership on the site will now be able to include AI-generated social media posts, blogs, and summaries in their automation.
IFTTT, a website that lets users connect a sequence of activities between gadgets and apps, sometimes known as “applets,” stands for “If This, Then That.” This includes automated processes like adding songs from liked YouTube videos to a Spotify playlist or getting a weather notification on your phone every morning. But for now, IFTTT is expanding the service’s level of automation.
When utilized with specified apps and devices, its new automation—AI social creator, AI content creator, and AI summarizer—can each create various types of written content. According to Peter Curley, vice president of marketing at IFTTT, the GPT-3 AI language model from OpenAI powers these interactions. This GPT-3.5 model, which predates the recently revealed GPT-4 that drives Bing’s chatbot, is the earlier version utilized in the ChatGPT preview.
For instance, depending on the subject matter a user enters in IFTTT’s note widget, the AI content generator automation generates an outline and then automatically stores it in Google Docs. The social creator option, meanwhile, can automatically create a tweet that describes and links to a new RSS feed item. The AI summarizer is also rather simple to use; for example, it may email you summaries of articles that have been published in a particular news source.
On IFTTT’s website, these integrations are offered as applets, or you can design your own. Users can already generate summaries or create social network posts using ChatGPT and Bing’s chatbots, but IFTTT’s integrations seem to make this process even more hands-off.
Curley expresses his excitement about the potential for AI and automation available on the platform.” Curley further disclosed the company’s desire “to release additional AI services in the near future.”
