Trump Says Huawei Will Remain In US Blacklist Even As US-China Trade Talks Are Set Told In October

As the trade war between the US and China escalates, The US president on Wednesday said his administration would not discuss Huawei’s blacklisting with China as both should be treated as separate entities.

He denied the allegations that his administration was seeking the downfall of China and maintained instead that the fall out with Huawei Technologies was factors on security.

“It’s a national security concern. Huawei is a big concern of our military, of our intelligence agencies, and we are not doing business with Huawei. We’ll see what happens with respect to China, but Huawei has been not a player that we want to discuss, that we want to talk about right now,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The US government halted the operations of the Shenzhen-based tech firm during the 5th generation network upgrade and accused it of having ties with the Beijing and that the firm could use its equipment to spy on the country. Huawei Technologies has repeatedly denied this claim stating that it has no ties with the Chinese government and that it works as a private enterprise.

Although the US trump led administration has no proof to back up these claims, it championed a campaign with its allies to withhold business dealings from the smartphone maker. In March, it placed the technology firm on an entity list, with a ban from having any business relationship to disrupt its business and that of its partners. However, American tech firms have also borne the brunt of this rash decision by the Trump led administration.

President Trump in August, announced a 10% tariff increment on the remaining goods from China entering into the US; goods that included household technology including smartphones, toys and PCs. Companies like Apple and Lenovo have addressed the issue by letting their users know that the only way to absorb the tariff is by hiking prices on all the goods.

Regardless of the war against Huawei, the smartphone maker has maintained second place worldwide, with Apple sliding to fourth place. Undoubtedly, this is due to a high patronage from China. Afterall, most apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the others are blocked from use in China.

Huawei Technologies on Tuesday accused the US government of coercing its companies to provide sensitive company info. Although the company has no evidence to back this claim, it said in a document to Reuters that three of its employees have reported them to the company since this year.
