How To Access Twitter Without A VPN In Restricted Areas

Twitter, a popular micro-blogging and social networking platform allows users post and interact with others with messages dubbed as ‘tweets’ has grown to be so powerful  that even analysts say Presidents of countries fear its influence.

The Twitter Inc created by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams in 2016 has over the years grown to be a global platform that allows registered users post, like, and retweet tweets with users interacting through a browser or mobile frontend software, or programmed through its APIs.

But the platform like Facebook and other social media giants is not without its challenges, notable of them, the restriction in use in some countries whose authorities find the actions and inactions of the platform offensive.

The governments of Turkey, China, Egypt, Iran, North Korea, UAE, Saudi Arabia Turkmenistan have one or the other blocked access to Twitter in their enclave and most recently the Nigerian government joined the fray.

TechBooky had reported in June this year that the Nigerian government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed announced the restriction of Twitter in the West-African country, saying the company actions undermined the corporate existence of the most populous black nation in the world.

It is known that the restriction of one of the ‘world power platforms’ in any geographical area may have adverse effects on those who may have relied on the service to eke a living.

The use of Virtual Private Network known more as VPN became popular in Nigeria in the advent of the Twitter ban but there is palpable fear in some quarters about the safety of the third party location changers. Many of the VPNs especially the free ones are susceptible to device and information hacks by those with nefarious intentions as many of the free VPNs will  collect the users device browsing history, location, monitor calls and even in some cases read messages, in the process intruding your device privacy.

It is in lieu of this that we outlined few steps to help users in areas where Twitter has been restricted access the platform, without the use of VPN.

So we will take you through the steps below.

Step 1

  • Turn the phone location on your smartphone off. The essence of this is to disallow your mobile network form recognizing your location as this is what mobile carriers in restricted areas use to carry out the order of the authorities.
  • Open your Twitter app, go to settings, click on proxy
  • In the proxy address, insert the numbers 180.94.69.66 there.
  • In the port address, use 8080
  • Close the Twitter application and reopen it to begin use

Step 2

This may require the use of a third party browser aside the twitter app. To do this, download Puffin Browser and access Twitter.com therein and behold, you are there.

You can now enjoy browsing your favourite social network, even in the face of the restriction.
