Yesterday aired the two-hour Google I/O keynote event where several enticing technology innovation was unveiled. Users streamlined a series of announcements to their preferred technology the tech giant listed during the developer conference.

The Keynote conference for developers was available for streamers to experience the 2023 edition of the product and services the tech showcased for two hours. My colleague at Techbooky didn’t miss the show having reported significant announcements Google presented to thrill tech-savvies.

Here is an easy digest recap of TechBooky Africa’s draft about the biggest news presentation at Google’s I/O developers’ keynote.

Bard got enhanced AI technology

We’re familiar with how the AI race has been a competitive market that impacted Bard into an irrational AI generator software that cost its developer a hundred billion dollars deficit. Still, Google saved the best news about the Bard system enhancement for its Google I/O keynote day.

The tech giant reported Bard’s release yesterday which denotes that the AI generator software has been removed from its waitlist. Bard is currently accessible in the English language while more languages – up to forty new languages are promised to be tweaked in Bard.

Bard is currently available in 180 countries for “users to be able to generate images via Firefly and then modify them using Express. Within Bard, users will be able to choose from templates, fonts, and stock images as well as other assets from the Express library.” Still, the tech giant wants native Asians to be a part of the AI innovation.

Pixel Fold awaits its debut

The Pixel Fold flagship gadget is another significant announcement Google presented at the developer conference which got the tech-savviest enthused about the foldable device debut. Recall the “May the Fourth Be With You” campaign the tech giant made viral on May 4 – a perfect day to leak the Pixel Fold smartphone.

According to the presentation on the foldable smartphone at the developer conference, Google has been exploring the foldable market for five years before the Pixel Fold advancements. The capability to fold the smartphone is less intriguing than the OS system that enables a seamless transition of both faces of the screen.

Workspace

Recall TechBooky Africa reported Google’s Workspace suite will be getting the AI incorporation to make the service utility smarter, with the addition of an automatic table (but not formula) generation in Sheets and image creation in Slides and Meet.

The automatic table is simpler, though Google notes there is more to come concerning using AI to create formulas.

The new features for Slides and Meet include the ability to type in what kind of visualization you are looking for, and the AI will create that image. Specifically for Google Meet, that means custom backgrounds. Check out more.

PaLM 2

The PaLM 2 is an advanced edition of the tech giant large language model (LLM) the likes of Meta Inc. started with the LLM in developing artificial intelligence. “PaLM 2 will power Google’s updated Bard chat tool, the company’s competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and function as the foundation model for most of the new AI features the company is announcing today.”

The PaLM 2 system also got advancements in enhanced tools to alter code debugging and writing codes. Just as the conference presented keynotes into PaLM 2 with a more critical look at the model through the lens of a Google-authored research paper.

Search

Google Search is another significant innovation the tech giant announced yesterday about the search engine being able to comprehend queries for simplified search results. The Image features a new watermark in the file itself that will allow images to be labeled as “AI-generated.”

This denotes that images on search results carrying the watermark serve as an identification tool that allows users ID authentic search results generated with AI. Google is experimenting with an AI-powered conversational mode.

“Users will see suggested next steps when searching and display an AI-powered snapshot of key information to consider, with links to dig deeper. When you tap on a suggested next step, Search takes you to a new conversational mode, where you can ask Google more about the topic you’re exploring. The context will be carried over from question to question.”

Google Cloud

The cloud infrastructure is another significant platform the tech giant has in its grasp to alter machine learning and other algorithms for AI. There’s a new A3 supercomputer virtual machine in town. Ron writes that “this A3 has been purpose-built to handle the considerable demands of these resource-hungry use cases.”

While noting that A3 is “armed with Nvidia’s H100 GPUs and combining that with a specialized data center to derive immense computational power with high throughput and low latency, all at what they suggest is a more reasonable price point than you would typically pay for such a package.”

MusicLM

MusicLM is Google’s new experimental AI tool that turns text into music. Kyle writes that, for example, if you are hosting a dinner party, you can simply type “soulful jazz for a dinner party” and have the tool create several versions of the song. Read more.

Google Maps

Google Maps unveiled a new “Immersive View for Routes” feature in select cities. The new feature brings all of the information that a user may need into one place, including details about traffic simulations, bike lanes, complex intersections, parking, and more. Check out more.

Google Pixel 7a

Google’s Pixel 7a goes on sale May 11 at $100 less than the Pixel 7 ($499). Like the Pixel 6a, it has a 6.1-inch screen versus the 6.4-inch Pixel 7. It was also launched in India. When it comes to the camera, it has a slightly higher pixel density, but Brian said, “I miss the flexibility and zoom of the 7 Pro, but I was able to grab some nice shots around my neighborhood with the 7a’s cameras.” Its new chip does enable features like Face Unblur and Super Res Zoom. Find the full breakdown here.
