We reported a while ago that Microsoft was dropping the Nokia brand name from its smart phones and now with the launch of the Lumia 535, this has been sealed. The Microsoft Lumia is a low end windows based phone. The Microsoft name can be on the back of the phone.

lumia535

Features of the new phone;
• five-inch 960 x 540 screen
• 1.2GHz quad-core processor
• 1GB of RAM
• 5-megapixel camera among others

This phone is targeted at emerging markets. I believe this is a tactical move by Microsoft especially at a time when other low cost phone have flooded the African markets in particular. In Nigeria alone, fast processing Tecno and InnJoo phones have seen a significant increase in sales. They both run on Google’s Android.
