Many times, we want to teach our friend, loved ones and colleagues some simple things on their computer system or even help them install, edit some functions on their PC’s but we are limited by distance.
For example, you need to modify a complex operating system for someone but you are not in the same place with that person, the person may not be able to follow the instructions like you are the one doing it.
Then you wish you are there to do it yourself.
Save the stress, we are here to teach you how to remotely operate another PC from anywhere in the universe, even with thousands of miles physically away from the computer system.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to not only operate that PC from anywhere you are, you can also grant someone access to not just view your computer, but be able to modify the contents therein.
All these can be done easily and seamlessly provided you and the person are connected to the internet.
Fear of hack?
We understand you may be scared of being prone to hacks with this method, thereby subjecting your personal information and computer to danger but hey don’t fret yet.
The application is fully secured as the process can only work with your consent and approval and the person operating your system can not access it another time without you being aware of the intention first.
How to get it started
You need to know that you will need what is known as a ‘Remote Desktop Software’ (RDS).
But then what is remote desktop software?
A remote desktop software is a operating system feature that authorizes a personal computer’s desktop environment to be run remotely on one system, while it is being displayed on a separate client device.
RDS readily captures the mouse and the keyboard inputs form the local computer known as ‘client’ and sends them to the remote computer known as ‘server’, with the latter in turn sending the display commands to the former.
RDS has many uses, ranging from its use in educational, commercial and organizational functions.
A teacher for example may need a remote desktop software to install an application or troubleshoot a software on the PC of a student or fix an error when a student or learner does not have the capacity to follow video or text tutorials to achieve that purpose.
Now, let’s show you how to use two RDS to remotely access another PC from anywhere.
Take a look.
Team Viewer: Team Viewer is a leading global provider of remote connectivity solutions, as it allow users to connect anything, anywhere, anytime, with the software offering secure remote access, support, control, and collaboration capabilities for online endpoints of any kind. It has a free version and also the premium version. The free version is mostly used by individuals and small businesses but the premium version is ideal for commercial and organizational use. The software is available for all operating systems, even for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux et al.
Now download Team Viewer to begin the process. You can download it here.
After downloading the file, install it on your PC.
The interface of the software looks like the picture below:
The above image shows the home screen and the ‘Team Viewer full video. As seen in the image, the software automatically provides a ID and Password to the local computer known as client. To then give access for the other person to operate your computer from his or her own end, you give the person who has the same software the ID and password to log in to your operating system.
From the interface above, a place on the right can be seen where you are asked to input Partner ID, you can then select on Remote control of File Transfer. After doing this, you will click on ‘Connect’. Once the connection is successful with the right login details, you will be required to provide your partner’s password.
Once this is done, you can operate the operating system of that person from your own end.
It should be noted that the ID and password changes for each connection, as they are not fixed. It implies your system can not be accessed another time by the same person without you giving permission. The issue of being hacked has then being laid to rest with this software.
Any Desk: Just like the ‘Team Viewer’ RDS, ‘Any Desk’ works for all operating systems, from Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, Raspberry Pi, Android & iOS. It also offers secure remote access, support, control, and collaboration capabilities for online endpoints.
The software is based on the unique proprietary codec, DeskRT, which allows for virtually latency-free collaboration, whether you’re down the hall or on the other side of the world and also for lower bandwidth internet connections. It therefore means ‘Any Desk’ covers areas of bad network a bit better than ‘Team Viewer’. It also has the free version but the paid version is the best as it allows you access to the litany of functions it has. Download Any Desk here.
Once downloaded, you will see the interface like the one shown below:
The process here is simple, as it is shown on the left side of the image, you can see ‘This Desk’ and it provides the client a 9 digit address/ID, what the remote computer operator needs to do is send the address/ID to the person at the other end and he or she inputs it, viola there is access to the other operating system.
We have other Remote Desktop software (RDS) like Splashtop Business Access, Zoho Assist, ConnectWise Control, VNC Connect, BeyondTrust Remote Support, LogMeIn Pro that performs similar functions.
We hope you gained a lot from this tutorial and put the steps to good use.
