Google Play Store Will Let You Download 2 Apps Simultaneously

Google Play Store to soon allow users download multiple apps at the same time

Over the past few years, the Google Play Store has undergone several changes. Most recently, the app hub enabled AI-generated FAQs for listings, and there are plans to use AI to provide a summary of the features of the app or game. Google has reportedly enabled customers to download many apps simultaneously, which is a significant departure from the Play Store’s prior policy of only permitting one download at a time. While not quite perfect, Google is now making this feature available to Android users.

This new feature is starting to roll out more widely, as first spotted by 9to5Google. It is currently available on a wide range of devices on the Play Store. However, there is currently a two-download limit at a time; any more pending downloads will be indicated as Pending until the other downloads have been completed.

Although, the first leak that made this new multi-download feature available implied that not just two, but at least five apps could be downloaded simultaneously. With this in consideration, we anticipate Google will adjust the limit further and ultimately let users select how many apps they want to download in this way at once.

Google Play simultaneous downloads

As of right now, the Play Store only downloads one update at a time and leaves the others in Pending, while the multi-download feature does not apply to app updates. As 9to5Google accurately points out, it would be more convenient to allow simultaneous downloads for app updates, but Google will probably turn this feature on rather soon.

Since at least 2019, Google has been working on enabling users to download multiple apps at once. However, the concept hasn’t fully crystallized until now. Would you be downloading two or more big apps or games at the same time to see if your Android phone has this new feature? On Pixel phones, users may be required to adjust whether or not newly downloaded apps show up on the home screen by going to Home Settings> Add app icons to the home screen.
