Google Pixel 6 Will Be Assembled in China As COVID-19 Hinders Move To Vietnam

...Google has always wanted to relocate its factory to northern Vietnam, which will be possible in the future.

Google’s Pixel smartphones brand is added to the list of other smartphone brands that are currently experiencing post-pandemic related restrictions on country borders to further smartphone production in Vietnam. Although the next model of Pixel smartphones is scheduled to launch this fall.

Google’s recent update reveals the multi-purpose tech company is letting go of its Vietnam dream — the spot where assembling its smartphones with the cheapest labour is available. While the Pixel 6 production will continue in China Google is expected to spend more. China’s economy has purportedly upgraded, whereby the current standard of living in China is expensive.

Remember, Asia has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 outbreaks. The virus started viral in China in late 2019 and continued till the earth decided to take a long break. Every country around the world had to exhibit strict border regulations to curb spreading COVID-19, including China which falls Google’s expectation short.

Google has always wanted to change the location where its Pixel production is done. The Search Giant has always focused on embracing its Vietnam factory, but the pandemic remains the only setback of producing its Pixel smartphones in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s mobile division is currently facing similar Vietnam-related issues with producing its smartphones. Although the Korean smartphone manufacturer has existing factories as well stationed in Vietnam which makes Samsung’s situation more complex in contrast with Google’s Vietnam dream.

Due to Vietnam’s border restrictions, the Korean smartphone manufacturer is currently experiencing no chance of sending the necessary components required to assemble its smartphones to the factory stationed in Vietnam.

Remember Pixel 5 was supposed to be produced in Google’s factory based in northern Vietnam but the pandemic crisis still hinders Google from actualizing its Vietnam dream. At the time the component Google had in its factories wouldn’t have completed the task to attain the number of Pixel units targeted for consumer distribution.

For contrast, Google’s Pixel 4A and Pixel 5 were hindered from being made in Vietnam because of the pandemic-related restrictions. Still, Google seems to have gone past Vietnam’s border-related hurdle to continue producing smartphones in its China-based factory.

Google noted they will continue producing its Pixel smartphones in China while they continue to attempt to resolve Vietnam’s strict border policies.
