Google Drive Updates Video Player Controls

Google Drive is getting a new video player. It receives a makeover to match the Material Design 3 system of the company. Dedicated controls for fast-forwarding and rewinding capabilities have been added since its debut, and the playback speed adjustment feature has also been improved. This breakthrough is noteworthy since it follows the company’s global rollout of inventory reporting in Google Drive earlier this month. The user experience is improved with this upgrade, which makes it simple to browse through cloud-stored videos.

Google unveiled the new media player in Google Drive in a blog post. It has a fresh layout that looks more contemporary. New buttons that display next to the play/pause option allow users to fast-forward or rewind films by 15-second increments. You may also adjust the subtitles and playback speed without going into the media player’s settings.

Users may now go forward or go back by 15-second increments using buttons adjacent to the play/pause option in Google Drive thanks to the quick forward rewind function. You may also change the captions and playback speed without going to the whole options menu. With the future Google Video editor, which will be driven by the Gemini large language model (LLMO), this change is in line with Google’s objective of offering a seamless media experience. The business claims that this capability was added to provide users an experience similar to Google Vids.

For Rapid Release on domain accounts, the Google Drive fast forward/rewind feature is now in the extended distribution phase. Within 15 days, users should be able to view it. The upgrade for Schedule Release domains will go live on November 18 and become visible over the course of three days. All Google Workspace users, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and owners of personal Google accounts will be able to use this functionality.

Alongside this new version, Google has made its Calendar more user-friendly with a more contemporary UI that allows users to choose between bright mode, dark mode, or the device’s default theme. These improvements further Google’s goal of improving the Workspace experience. Additionally, Google’s custom-designed fonts are used in the upgraded interface typography. Light mode, dark mode, and the device’s default theme are now available to users.

The task list view and the rest of the Google Calendar online interface are reportedly affected by the modifications.
