Gmail’s integration of Google Calendar with Gemini goes live as customers of Google Workspace may now add new events from Gemini on the Gmail side panel and ask questions about impending ones thanks to Calendar’s integration with Gemini in Gmail. Google will eventually allow users to create events by extracting data from emails.

Since the start of the year, Google’s Gemini has been a component of Gmail’s side panel. The Mountain View company announced today that Google Calendar is now one of the apps that Gmail’s Gemini connects to.

More artificial intelligence (AI) features are being supported by Gmail’s Gemini. Google said on Wednesday that its native AI model, Gemini, would be integrated into the Google Calendar app. In this manner, qualified individuals can ask calendar-based questions of other users using Gemini in Gmail. Users of Google Workspace who have one of the Gemini add-ons can access the feature. At the moment, this feature can only be accessed online. Notably, the tech behemoth from Mountain View extended its AI-powered “Help Me Write” and “Polish” capabilities online last month.

The software giant, Google, has Integrated Gemini in Gmail Calendar and has also described the new feature in detail in a blog post. Numerous Google apps are already incorporated into the Gmail mail client. Among them is Google Calendar. The Calendar integration allows users to schedule meetings, add tasks for later, and view peers’ day plans.

The software behemoth is now integrating Gemini with the Calendar app that can be found on the Gmail side panel. This allows users to ask a number of questions that call for the Calendar feature by tapping on the “Ask Gemini” icon located in the upper right corner of Gmail’s web interface.

It implies that Gmail users will be able to manage their calendars and respond to inquiries about them. Users can inquire about their own forthcoming calendar events or request that Gemini construct a one-time and recurring calendar event, for example. According to the post, users can ask Gemini to “Create a 30 min calendar event for a weekly yoga class every between Monday and Wednesday at 9am” or create a one time casual/business date appointment with a colleague or friend as an example, and the AI will add it right away.

Notably, Workspace users who have Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or the Google One AI Premium add-ons can integrate Google Calendar for Gemini in Gmail.

In addition, you can now use Gemini in Gmail to create calendar events and get more information about events that are already on your calendar. Nevertheless, there is a lengthy list of things that Gemini in Gmail is now unable to do;

  1. Create events by extracting information from emails, or add or remove people from existing events.
  2. Bring up meeting-related attachments or RSVPs.
  3. Create a convenient time to meet with other people or find time slots when you’re available to meet.
  4. Set aside assignments, focus periods, an out-of-office policy, or designated workspaces.
  5. Add or manage meeting rooms.

Some or all of the features missing that are described above might become available at some point in the future. The good thing is we’ll find out when exactly these features will hit Gmail since Google will provide us with an update via the Workspace blog.

The Google Calendar integration with Gemini in Gmail will not be available to everyone at once. The search giant announced the new feature will be rolled out over the course of the next few weeks, so the deployment is expected to be completed by December 6, 2024.

In terms of accessibility, users of Google Workspace who have the following add-ons can access this feature: Google One AI Premium, Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, and Gemini Education Premium.
