Gmail’s Gemini Insert button lets users easily add produced AI replies as text to an email’s reply draft. Gmail for Android is apparently adding a ‘Insert’ button to its Gemini assistant. Since last year, the web version of Gemini in Gmail has included artificial intelligence (AI), but it has yet to be included in the Android app. According to the article, the capability is now being rolled out to all Android handsets. This feature follows the release of Google Calendar compatibility to Gmail’s Gemini assistant in November 2024. Notably, users will need to acquire a Gemini Advanced subscription to access this functionality.
The feature which Google has finally begun putting out is an Insert button on the Gemini panel of the Gmail app for Android. We previously identified the button and discussed it in an Authority Insights APK deconstruction. It is now available to all Gmail Android users via the app’s most recent update. The Insert button is a shortcut for adding AI-generated responses to your email drafts, making the process faster than before.
Gmail’s Android App Reportedly Receives a New Gemini Feature that allows users having access to Gemini in Gmail on Android have previously been able to produce replies for emails using the AI chatbot; however, the proposed reply must be manually included to the email draft. Users could either copy and paste the generated content from the Gemini interface into the email draft or type the response themselves. The procedure was inefficient in both cases, making the reply suggestion feature less useful.
This was not the case on Gmail’s web version, where users could access the Insert button since last year. According to an Android Authority story, the Insert button is finally being rolled out to Gmail’s Android app. The update was apparently made with Gmail for Android version 2025.01.05.715468168.
When you hit the Insert button, the generated text is automatically connected as a reply to the draft, avoiding the need to manually copy and paste the response. The video published by the Android Authority, the Insert button will appear next to the Like and Dislike symbols in the bottom-right corner of Gemini’s created responses. The diagonal arrow-shaped icon is reported to be located to the left of the copy icon and can be used to instantly add AI-generated text to the email draft. Following that, users can easily make adjustments to the text before sending it.
Gemini‘s “Suggest a Reply” feature now includes the new Insert tool. Google’s AI software can also summarise emails, retrieve information from old emails, and add events to Google Calendar. The latter is achievable because of an interface between Gemini and Google Calendar that was launched late last year.
Individuals can also use the interface to ask Gemini questions about Google Calendar or request that it create an event. Events can also be generated by pulling data from specific emails.
The Gemini panel already supports a number of strong AI functions, like summarizing email threads, accessing information from old emails, and integrating with Google Calendar events. It can also aid with draft responses, but until now, users had to manually integrate AI-generated responses into drafts. This upgrade speeds up the process and matches the functionality of Gmail’s Help Me Write button in the compose page.
The Insert button, symbolized by a sleek arrow, joins other options in Gmail’s Gemini panel, such as “Like,” “Dislike,” and “Copy.”
To use the Insert button and other Gemini features in Gmail, make sure you have the latest version 2025.01.05.715468168 of the program from the Google Play Store.
