The AI-powered digital assistant Google Gemini, which is set to take the place of Google Assistant, could be acquiring a new function from the latter that enables users to send and receive messages and phone calls without unlocking the device.
The new features are apparently being added to Gemini AI Assistant, the recently released artificial intelligence (AI) virtual assistant for Android handsets. Lack of connectivity with third-party and first-party apps has been a key issue since its debut earlier this year. Over the course of several months, the tech behemoth located in Mountain View resolved some of the problems with a number of extensions that provide access to various apps and features. According to a recent source, Gemini on Android smartphones will have the capability to send and receive messages directly from the lock screen.
The most recent beta of the Google app has new features that let Gemini manage calls and messages even while your phone is locked, according to Android Authority’s recent APK analysis of the most recent version.
The Google app beta version 15.42.30.28.arm64 was found to have the new Gemini AI assistant functionality, according to an Android Authority report. The functionalities were discovered during the Android application package (APK) disassembly process and are not visible at this time.
Numerous functionality from Google Assistant have already been transferred to Gemini by the firm, but many claim that the AI-powered digital assistant is still less helpful than the former when it comes to changing system settings and carrying out tasks on the user’s behalf.
A screenshot of the function was also posted by the newspaper. The picture suggests that a new option has been added to the Gemini’s Settings on the lock screen menu. “Make calls and send messages without unlocking” is the new option’s title, and it is followed by a toggle switch. According to reports, users can activate it if they want to utilize these features.
Notably, Google Assistant presently allows users to send and receive messages and make calls even while their smartphones are locked. But according to reports, this new function also makes the AI-powered virtual assistant more capable. According to the screenshot, in order to see incoming messages that include private information, users will still need to unlock their handset.
According to reports, Google is also making improvements to the floating Gemini text field overlay. The new interface includes a thinner text box with two distinct boxes that have the options “Ask about this page” and “Summarize this page,” according to another screenshot that was posted. According to reports, this new design takes the place of the big floating box that consumers presently receive.
The article also stated that a little update is being made to the Gemini AI assistant’s extensions page. According to reports, the new design divides the extensions into several categories rather than displaying them all in one area. Productivity, Media, Travel, Device Control, and Communication are a few of the categories. When users might be able to access these capabilities is still unknown.
