It is estimated that DVDs are going to perish sooner or later from this world. According to the evolution rule that the fittest survive, that prediction seems inevitable. However, as to how soon it will disappear from our horizon, it looks like not any sooner. Despite people are more and more opt for streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon etc, there are still a considerable mass population don’t even give that a single dime, they still prefer hard copies. Go ask Amazon how many DVD movies they sell per month. I believe they will tell you a lot of.

Another reason why DVDs gonna survive for a long time is that people are making homemade DVDs more than ever before. This is partly because taking videos is never easier than before thanks to this mobile age which is flooded by smart phones and tablet computers with amazing cameras. Those tons of videos are made into DVDs for sharing with family relatives. It might be a family reunion, a birthday party for kids, a wedding ceremony etc. To make those videos into DVDs, a piece of DVD maker software is indispensable. Now, how to find a reliable DVD maker software becomes your priority. Here are a few things to consider when setting out for hunting.

The input support is the first thing to think of. Most of personal videos taken by smart iPhone are in MOV format, and Android phones usually produce MP4 videos, so when looking for possible candidates, bear in mind it must support at least these two formats as input source. But don’t worry, any DVD maker software out there should support MP4, however, MOV is the one you should double confirm. Still, there are other video formats a DVD maker will usually support, such as MKV, AVI, M2TS, TS, WMV, WMA, 3GP, FLV, M4V, VOB, etc.

The output options are the next thing to worry about. If you want to share the final DVDs with other family members who do not live with you, or live in another city, then burning the DVD to blank discs will be a better choice. The burning feature is a very fundamental request, I do believe that every DVD maker software is capable of doing that. What you do need to pay extra attention to is what types of blank DVD it supports to burn videos on. There are DVD+R and DVD-R discs, so make sure the software you are looking for support the blank DVD type you have. Another thing regarding to the output option which may interest you is whether you want to put your DVDs on hard drives, instead of burning them to blank DVDs. Doing this way, it will save you a remarkable amount of money buying blank DVDs. If you do, then make sure to see if the DVD maker software can output the final DVD on your computer HDDs as DVD ISO files or folders, which is much easier for watching on computers and transferring to other family members via instant messengers like Skype, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger etc.

Those are very basics you need care about. There are still some other elements which may concern you, like the choices on burning engines, custom settings, DVD menus, etc. Some really good DVD maker softwares have multiple options on burning engines, while others may only give you one option. Some may allow users to do a lot of custom settings and have rich DVD menu templates, while others may not. So, it is up to you which one to choose.
