We hear Facebook is testing a new feature that’ll allow you join live events. This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal which said “the company is offering a stream of content from the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago to users anywhere in the U.S., an effort to compete with live social platforms like Snapchat Inc. and Twitter”. Facebook had launched a feature called “Place Tips” earlier this year in a bid to connect you with live events in your area.
In Africa, I can already see this service being embraced by religious houses more when the feature is fully open to all Facebook users. Event organisers and preachers alike can tap into this feature to reach a bigger audience. About 450 million people currently use Facebook events monthly.
You can simply activate the Place Tips feature by following the steps below from Facebook or learn more about it here
“You can turn place tips on or off from your settings on the Facebook app for iPhone. To turn place tips on or off from the app:
- Tap More
- Scroll down and tapSettings
- TapLocation > Place Tips Settings
- Tap to turnPlace Tips in News Feed on or off
Your location is determined using cellular networks, Wi-Fi, GPS and Facebook Bluetooth® beacons. Location services must be enabled for place tips to work.”
