Facebook has quietly launched an Android app for users in emerging economies especially. The app is intended for low-end mobile devices and is designed to work on 2G networks. According to TechCrunch, this new app is called Facebook Lite. Since its launch on the 20th of this month, it has reached about 50,000 installs and is currently available in Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
The app is a tiny 252KB download. It promises quick load times with efficient mobile data usage and includes Facebook’s messaging features.
