The Facebook project that gives users the options to hide their likes count is expected to roll out soon. Social media started this project in 2019 and this feature will be available for both Facebook and Instagram.
Although, the entirety of their global users has anticipated the release of this option that was to be released last year, but plans changed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Facebook’s consent was required to curtails misinformation from spreading virally. According to the social media company is worth noting that the numbers of likes have pressured other users which is likely to Influence unpleasant experience while active on either Facebook or Instagram.
While other users have reportedly encountered embarrassments, anxiety, and other ill mental defects for having a low number of likes. It is worth noting that youngsters preferred being popular on these platforms — it makes it more difficult because a majority of these users usually delete their posts if the response, they get doesn’t match their expectations.
Social media has become a community where people share false experiences — aiming to gain multiple Likes, chasing clout and notoriety. While other users go an extra length to attain more Like where engaging other users to a broader Internet community without earning a fair popularity point.
“How many likes [users] got, or other people got — it turned out that it didn’t change nearly as much about the experience,” Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, said not all users are fond of accumulating likes. “In terms of how people felt or how much they use the experience, as we thought it would. But it did end up being pretty polarizing. Some people liked it and some people didn’t,”
Still, the option to socialize without the need of clicking Likes should have been considered — this will redirect both Instagram and Facebook towards a different phase. Since this tool has bolstered its services to retain supremacy over other social networks, these social media companies will rather seek soluble alternatives.
Aside from these social media, its users such as entertainers or Influencers have reportedly gained Likes as a source of income whereby brands offer them deals based on their online popularity. However, social media without Likes appears to be void.
“For those who liked it, it was mostly what we had hoped — which is that it depressurized the experience. And, for those who didn’t, they used Likes to get a sense of what was trending or was relevant on Instagram and Facebook. And they were just super annoyed that we took it away,” Instagram’s head added.
Facebook revealed hiding Likes on its platforms is out in a finite version — the availability of this option is not based on region but categorized users. which will be available for global use in due time. Although, Instagram’s hidden likes will be activated later.
