Quite recently, there were speculations that the ban on some Twitter users such as former President Donald Trump, could be lifted under Elon Musk’s ownership once the deal to buy Twitter is completed. This is not speculation anymore as this has been confirmed by Elon Musk himself.
On Tuesday, the billionaire and Tesla CEO said that he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former President Donald Trump once his deal to acquire Twitter is completed. Speaking at the Financial Times Live’s Future of the Car Conference, the billionaire said that “Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts… I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”
He went on to add that “I would reverse the permanent ban. I don’t own Twitter yet. So this is not like a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?” Elon Musk has been in the news of late for numerous controversial reasons related to Twitter. He is expected to temporarily take over the role of CEO once the deal is completed.
Donald Trump got banned from Twitter for allegations surrounding inciting violence. His account was “permanently suspended… due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter said. He had over 80 million followers before he got kicked out.
Recently, Donald Trump spoke that he’d not be coming back to Twitter if the ban on his account gets lifted under Elon Musk’s ownership. “No, I won’t be going back on Twitter. I will be on Truth Social within the week. It’s on schedule. We have a lot of people signed up. I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot. He’s an excellent individual. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Twitter. I won’t be going back on Twitter,” Donald Trump said.
