Dark Sky’s API For iOS Will Reportedly Shutdown Next Year, Leaving Out Android Users

...sooner or later, Dark Sky's platform will be no more

According to Dark Sky’s blog post, the tech company’s co-founder, Adam Grossman, announced the validated timeline about the contract the weather forecast company assigned with Apple, which is expected to expire by the end of 2022.

Last year, Dark Sky was acquired by Apple in the wake of the pandemic — this deal bolstered the iPhone maker’s development of forecasting with its weather app for its iOS and desktop platform.

Meanwhile, Apple initially dropped keynote notice about letting Dark Sky off its subsidiary list by 2022. during the recent developer conference, Apple unveiled its custom-developed weather app that rolls out with the forthcoming iOS 15 that is anticipated to arrive this fall.

The new weather app to feature in iOS 15 also has a new graphic design including, backgrounds like animation, full-screen weather app, and next-hour precipitation notifications.

In line with the futuristic agenda to shutdown its iOS platform, it has already closed the office for Android and its Wear OS — as of August 2020, these platforms were cut off from Dark Sky’s database. Meanwhile, the iOS app for this weather platform is yet to close the office and it is still available on Apple’s App Store — it costs $3.99 as its annual fee.

The weather company Application Programming Interface is expected to function as usual for users who already have Dark Sky’s app on their smartphones, then after next year, you will hear no more word from the weather forecasting app. Although the API should have ceased working a long time ago, still, the weather company added an extra year for certainty.

Ever since semiconductors became scarce, Apple decided to produce the custom-owned chips products and services, especially Semiconductor they dubbed “M1 chip”, which has reportedly featured in most of their newly produced gadgets such as iPhones, Mac’s, and iPads.

While we anticipate the next iOS update to experience new products and services, such as Apple’s custom owned weather app, iCloud+, Apple Wallet, FaceTime with Spatial Audio (sharing videos while FaceTime is active), audio on-device Siri mode, and so much more.

During WWDC, the iPad maker announced series of interesting features to lock their customer’s consent while they await the end of summer to experience them all. Still the current product and services by Apple remain interesting.
