Recall the Federal Government of Nigeria recently called for the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria’s internet space after the micro-blogging site deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s post. Following this development, an indigenous instant messaging app CrowweApp was introduced to Nigerians by Adamu Garba.

The CrowweApp has been described as an instant messaging and financial transaction app that comes with a digital wallet that helps to transfer and receive money while chatting and connecting with friends and family.

The highly controversial CrowweApp has been deleted from the Google play store. This development came after several attempt by Adamu Garba to use the opportunity of the ban on Twitter in Nigeria to advertise his app to Nigerians. His app was severely rejected and condemned by young Nigerians. This criticisms amongst other reasons led to a pool strings of bad review the app received on the Play store.

A reviewer commented that if there was a rating below the one star rating, he would have awarded that to the app, Another reviewer, said “This App represents everything that defines wrong. From the space it takes on the phone, to the design interface and user experience, it makes me wonder if thoughts went into the development of this App.” Check out more reviews here.

Also a Twitter user accused the app of stealing the Terms and Conditions of another app, Spotify.  The Twitter user stated “Check the Crowwe app’s terms and conditions. It’s the same thing as Spotify. They didn’t even bother editing. Like if you click on the hyperlink it redirects you to Spotify theft. What sort of pangolo app is that?”. Dubawa, a fact-checking platform confirmed the accusation to be true.

However there has been no official statement on the reason for the removal however Google Play policy revealed that the company has the right to remove applications it perceives to have violated its policy. Google policy states “Once your app is removed, the published version of your app won’t be available on Google Play until a compliant update is submitted,”. It added that “Once your update is available, users can download the update on your app’s store listing page or from their My apps page on the Play Store app,”

Finally its unclear reasons for the removal of the application, some think its karma, and some think the introduction was too sudden to the Twitter ban while others prefer it doesn’t see the light of day again. Chances are Crowwe App will bounce back strong as many confirm the iOS version of the App is still available in the App Store.
