The long-awaited audio-chat platform; Clubhouse is now available for Android users. The service was formerly only available to users with devices that operate on iOS but now Android users can join in the fun too.
The beta version of the Android app is available on Google Play Store for Android users in the US and according to the company, the app will be available to other English-speaking countries around the world soon.
“Today, we are thrilled to share that Clubhouse for Android will start rolling out in beta immediately. We will begin gradually, with the US today, followed by other English-speaking countries and then the rest of the world”, the company announced in a blog post.
About a week ago, Clubhouse’s CEO and Co-founder; Paul Davison, announced that “Clubhouse will soon be available for Android users”. This information was revealed in a weekly Town Hall meeting.
Clubhouse came to the scene thirteen months ago and became a big deal after celebrities, entrepreneurs, politicians, and investors joined the service. Since Clubhouse announced that it was going to roll out its Android app, users have been anticipating its release. Clubhouse started working on its Android app earlier this year and began beta testing this month.
Clubhouse plans on collecting feedback from users and is taking time to see if the beta Android app is satisfactory before officially releasing this. “Our plan over the next few weeks is to collect feedback from the community, fix any issues we see, and work to add a few final features like payments and club creation before rolling it out more broadly”, Clubhouse announced.
Clubhouse was launched on iOS in March of last year and is currently valued at $4 billion. Many other social media platforms have begun to launch their own clones after the success of the audio-chat platform. Twitter, for instance, launched its Spaces and any user with 600 followers can host the feature. Reddit also launched its audio-chat feature called Reddit Talk. There exist many more Clubhouse clones available, the audio-chat idea is becoming a norm in many popular apps.
After the period of testing has been completed, Clubhouse will officially release the Android app.
