In partnership with Chinese company Huawei, Cloud Exchange — a Nigerian tech company — has launched a Data Centre. The Uptime-Institute-certified tier IV prefabricated data centre is the first of its kind in Africa.
Cloud Exchange is a Nigerian-based company that provides solutions in end-to-end Information Technology. The company is one of the fastest-growing tech companies in West Africa.
In a statement released by the tech firm, the data centre was an advancement in its pursuit of service expansion and offerings ranging from hybrid cloud infrastructure, Tier IV Data centre colocation, systems integration, etc.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Glad Dibetso — CEO of Cloud Exchange — said that the digital economy advancement in Nigeria was responsible for the creation of the data centre.
“We had already had plans as far back as 2016 to create a tier IV data centre. We had a strong vision to build this infrastructure — a first of its kind in Africa — which is certified by the Uptime Institute. We aimed to be part of those providing technical solutions that would advance the African continent. Infrastructure, especially in the aspect of Information and Communications Technology has been one of the limiting factors for Africa. We realized that we had to enhance ICT infrastructure to enable Africa to become part of the future of technology because ICT is the foundation of digitalisation,” the CEO said.
The CEO also said that the data centre is the first in West Africa that does not cause noise or air pollution. He said the structure is also free from FM200 contamination in West Africa.
Head of Data Centre and Operation at Cloud Exchange — Adetoyese Oyerinde — also spoke at the event. According to him, the data centre facility promises a minimum availability of 99.995 percent.
“Tier IV promises more than just availability. It will offer reliability and top-notch services. It also promises adaptability,” he said.
Also present at the event was the Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited — Mr. Eric. According to him, Huawei has been providing excellent ICT solutions to Nigeria since 1999 and will continue to do so. He noted that the Chinese company will continue to develop its DC solutions by applying innovative ideas.
