CES 2022: Realme GT 2 With Paper-Like Back And Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Realme GT 2 Pro and its display specs

Another mobile device that has been announced at CES 2022 is the Realme GT 2. Built with a huge reveal from an unexpected source, the announcement of the new GT 2 has certainly done one thing, take some CES 2022 attendees by surprise. One of the devices within the series carries Snapdragon’s all-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a huge battery and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The device also boosts what Realme calls the “world’s only” 150-degree wide-angle camera, which comes as part of a three-lens array. According to Realme, the GT 2 series would only be available in China on its original release, for now, Europe is next though while scheduling for international roll-out later in Q1.

The Realme GT 2 series comes in two models – a vanilla GT 2 model and the GT 2 Pro which showcases the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Starting with the design, both colours on the GT 2 models showcase a specially developed bio-based polymer back material that has the feel of paper – the first of its kind on any smartphone. Realme claims its design team were tasked with developing the new which offers the same structural integrity as other fossil-based materials while saving up to 2KG CO2 per kilogram body weight.

Both GT 2 phones get the same 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor with OIS and 1.0µm pixels. Realme GT 2 Pro packs a flat 6.7-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution, a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 1,000Hz touch sampling rate. While vanilla Realme GT 2 gets a smaller 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. As for the chipset, you can find the last-gen Snapdragon 888 in the GT 2 with 128GB RAM while the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship SoC goes to the GT 2 Pro model with 512GB storage.

Both Realme devices have 5,000 mAh batteries and 65W charging and boot with the latest Android 12 with Realme UI 3.0 on top of the box. Moving on to the panels, the panel has been touted to offer improved battery life with at least 50% less power consumption compared to past AMOLEDs. Instantaneous refresh rate adjustments are between 30Hz and 120Hz.

Realme GT 2 series official with paper like backs, Pro model debuts with SD 8 Gen 1

Realme GT 2 series are available in Paper White, Paper Green, Steel Black and Titanium Blue colours. Both phones will be available starting January 8. Realme GT 2 starts at CNY 2,699 ($425) in its 8/128GB trim and goes up to CNY 3,199 ($503) for the 12/256GB variant. Realme GT 2 Pro starts at CNY 3,899 ($613) for the entry-level 8/128GB trim and maxes out at CNY CNY 4,999 ($787) for the 12/512GB model.
