The head of Audi South Africa, Sascha Sauer confirmed the massive hardware solar-enabled infrastructure deployment scheme by the EV maker in line with its corporate commitment to frontier penetrating Africa with EV technology.

Sauer said, “EVs are the future of mobility and we’re investing not just in hardware infrastructure…By fulfilling our promise from early 2022, we’re demonstrating our commitment to helping take SA into the future of mobility.”
Audi’s commitment to influencing Africans with EV technology currently trends the Western marketplace through Tesla’s domineering EV technology. The foreign automaker partnered with other tech giants such as Rubicon and GridCars to generate R45 million in investment funds to debut the hardware solar-enabled infrastructure in South Africa.

Audi and its investors are keen to deploy DC 200kW charger with solar power backup technology to bypass the local load-shedding menace to the state electricity service. “Load-shedding is a reality to which South Africans have become accustomed, it is worth pointing out that our charging network also capitalizes on solar installations, where possible, to keep the charging stations optimally operational,” Sauer said.
Audi South Africa and its partnership with Rubicon and GridCars are optimistic about the hardware solar-enabled infrastructure deploying across South Africa before its close counterpart, Tesla. South African EV owners branded by Audi are entitled to the EV charging station which is designed with an interoperable charging connectivity system to power other EVs by other brands.
