Apple’s Voice Assistant Siri Can Interact Without Online Access

...Siri becomes an audio on-device tool

Henceforth, Apple’s digital assistant, Siri, will be accessible for offline use while processing audio on-device by default exclusive for iOS 15 that rolls out this fall, Techbooky report. Siri is expected to be faster without an Internet connection while focusing on privacy-first, assisting its users directly.

According to Apple, the audio on-device digital assistant is powered by the machine learning algorithms the iPhone maker has been developing in recent times.

During WWDC, Apple noted that: “This addresses one of the biggest privacy concerns for voice assistants, which is unwanted audio recording.” Machine learning tech also bolsters its security, making Siri function privately without contacting the cloud for possible results.

It worth noting that, processing audio on-device works with the internet by default — so asking Siri to process your inquiry requires an internet connection to source out answers. Meanwhile, Apple’s digital assistant audio on-device can only complete a simple task, like navigating through the device.

For contrast, you can ask Siri to dial a number from your enlisted contact, controlling your music and videos, or open apps. It worth noting that offline Siri is exclusive for devices built with Apple’s A12 Bionic chip or its custom-owned M1 chip.

The iPhone maker continues to embrace making its services and products accessible to third parties. Aside from Apple’s FaceTime, Siri’s voice control will be integrated by an interested third-party HomeKit accessory manufacturer. WWDC announced audio on-device Siri will be available by summer — Siri will be routed via your HomeKit device once they are connected to your smartphone.

Apple did not disclose if its voice assistant will function on preferred HomeKit devices or brands. Still, Apple used the Ecobee thermostat to illustrate Siri’s capability to mingle with third parties during WWDC.

Back to Apple’s new default audio on-device that also supports its new Wallet app that reportedly controls home key, office keys — simply tap on the app to unlock doors. This app is also exclusive to iOS 15.
