Since the experience isn’t just about using ChatGPT, there won’t be any restrictions on what Apple Intelligence can offer in the future, particularly when it comes to the chatbots that customers can select from. Next year, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other AI technologies, like Google’s Gemini AI chatbot, will also have the opportunity to debut on Apple’s iOS.
In order to enable Apple Intelligence features, there have long been rumours that Apple will be collaborating with other AI chatbot businesses in the future. ChatGPT has already been integrated into iOS by Apple and OpenAI, and it is currently available in the iOS 18.2 beta, which is anticipated to be released in December.
Although the release dates of more third-party chatbots for Apple’s iOS have not yet been announced, analysts and executives have stated that more AI integrations are on the horizon.
Other integrations, like Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, which Bloomberg had stated would be coming, have not yet been announced. Even back in June, Craig Federighi, a software executive at Apple, expressed in an interview that he would like to see Gemini integrated into Apple Intelligence.
Google Gemini is one of the upcoming integrations that will be added to AI-powered features for qualified devices, according to the most recent Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman thinks that Apple is currently granting OpenAI a “window of exclusivity” to have ChatGPT be the sole chatbot available on its platforms.
However, we might now have a clearer picture of Apple’s timeframe based on a recent scoop from Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter: Google Gemini integration is one of the next enhancements. However, given that it isn’t really paying for the technology, Apple is likely to provide OpenAI with a pleasant period of exclusivity. Therefore, I don’t think the Gemini chatbot will be available on iOS until the following year.
Gurman, at least, believes that Google Gemini integration won’t happen until the following year. It’s unclear, though, if that will be in the spring (like iOS 18.4) or later in the year, during the iOS 19 release cycle.
Gurman’s research on Google Gemini’s iOS integration does not yet include any precise release dates. Nevertheless, the analyst hinted that it should show up the following year. This anticipated schedule, according to 9to5Mac, places Gemini’s availability through Apple Intelligence in the spring of 2025, coinciding with the release of iOS 18.2, or via iOS 19, which is also anticipated the following year.
Apple made it possible to have another AI chatbot available on its private Apple Intelligence, which is one of the most unexpected actions in the IT sector. Its collaboration with OpenAI was initially mentioned in early rumours. As part of its Apple Intelligence offerings, the well-known ChatGPT has a particular place on iOS 18 and will provide a new experience that gives Apple users more options.
This was an unusual move by Apple and the IT sector, as there is now fierce competition amongst companies to discover who can provide the finest generative artificial intelligence skills in the globe. However, things are different for Apple, which runs Apple Intelligence and aims to make its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS a centre for AI.
Gemini integration is unlikely to happen this year, despite some people’s hopes.
However, you’re in luck if you still want to use Gemini on your iPhone! Earlier this week, Google launched the standalone Gemini app on the App Store, enabling iOS users to access Google’s most recent AI advancements right from their phone.
Apple and OpenAI previously disclosed that their collaboration is contingent solely on ChatGPT being accessible to users on iOS platforms; it is not predicated on the AI startup paying to get a position.
Craig Federighi of Apple earlier stated that he hoped to see Google’s Gemini accessible to customers on Cupertino’s AI services. According to other reports, more chatbots, such as Claude from Anthropic, were on the horizon.
With its recognizable chatbot and direct integration into Apple’s operating system, ChatGPT is now accessible to program participants on their eligible devices through the iOS 18.2 beta. Even though it initially adopted OpenAI’s technology, the Cupertino behemoth is still open to other chatbots and will soon expand its roster. Google Gemini will make its debut the following year.
