Apple To Cut iPhone Production By Up To 10 Percent Early Next Year

If we are to go by a report in the Japanese paper the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple will cut production of iPhones by up to 10 percent in the first three months of 2017. Before you question the finding of Nikkei Asian Review, they had reported back in May that Apple would now release major iPhone models every three years instead of two like they do currently.

The new report comes as sales of Apple’s iPhone has been on the decline after reports in 2015 predicted that sales would decline. According to this report, this would be the second year in a row that Apple would be cutting down on the number of iPhones it produce in a year. The surprising thing is that this includes the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models and I say surprising because the new phones were supposed to fill the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 void. But it looks like not even Apple believes the projection and has now decided to cut production as the report says demand is to blame primarily for this. But it also notes the shortage of other parts like camera sensors is also to blame for cuts.

According to research firm IDC, Apple’s share of the smartphone market has been shrinking for some time now but we all thought iPhone 7 was meant to stop some of that bleeding. Apparently not
