The next major event on Apple’s 2024 schedule is a product launch in May, following the introduction of the Vision Pro at the beginning of the year. Beginning at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET on May 7, Apple has begun sending invites for the Apple Event. The event will be live-streamed on Apple’s website and millions of people will tune in. This forms a critical marketing channel for the Apple brand. As depicted by an Apple Pencil in the invite, the iPads will be the main emphasis of this virtual event.
According to rumours, the iPad Pro will get some of the biggest upgrades since the 2021 M1 redesign, such as an OLED display (the larger model will have an OLED display with a small size jump to 13 inches), an upgraded M3 CPU, and the long overdue horizontal repositioning of the front-facing camera. A revised Magic Keyboard with an aluminium construction and a larger trackpad may also be available, along with a new Apple Pencil. After Apple originally entered the product category, this has been the longest wait for new iPad models.
It’s also possible that updated iPad Airs may come with a larger 12.9-inch model. According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple’s retail stores are running low on the current iPad Air. Gurman says “When Apple is getting ready to launch new models, it typically pares back shipments of the current lineup — and that’s exactly what we’re seeing happen. Sources at multiple retail stores say that inventory of several iPad Air models has started to dwindle.” That is a reliable sign that a new model is about to be released.
It’s anticipated that Apple will also make big AI announcements this year, probably during its June Worldwide Developers Conference.
