Apple Opens Vision Pro Applications To Developers

Apple Vision Pro developer kits will be available

According to a statement from Apple, developers can now submit an online request for a Vision Pro headset. As a result, Apple is now sending out developer kits. The dev kit comes with a Vision Pro headset in addition to code-level support requests, setup assistance, and “check-ins” with Apple specialists regarding creating and developing visionOS apps.

The company will give priority to applicants who are developing an app that “takes advantage of visionOS features and capabilities”; therefore, it’s possible that the Netflix team won’t be selected. According to reports, Netflix plans to debut the Vision Pro with an unaltered version of its iPad app.

Interested developers must be Account Holders in the Apple Developer Program to be eligible to apply, after which you’ll be required to describe the app development history and portfolio of your team. Dylan McDermott, CEO of Sun Apps, also tweeted information highlighting Apple’s security guidelines for the device. In short, anyone who receives one is supposed to keep it secured away from everyone else. “You must ensure that unauthorized persons (including any family, friends, or household employees) do not access, view or handle the DK.” Similar standards are in place for other hardware with limited access that Apple distributes, such as the Security Research Device iPhones, but this list of guidelines is longer and more detailed.

The Developer kits must be returned upon request, according to Apple, which could be necessary for a variety of reasons. Apple may decide to recall all pre-production hardware once the headset officially releases, as we witnessed with the specific Mac minis it offered prior to the M1 launch.

Amidst Manufacturing Woes, Apple Accepts Applications for Vision Pro Developer Kits

On Apple’s website, developers can submit an application to one of the Vision Pro developer labs to hold in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo. A compatibility checklist has also been issued by Apple to assist developers in determining whether their software is ready for visionOS.

Apple is working to make it simple to move iOS and iPadOS apps to the Vision Pro headset by doing it automatically and without requiring developers to make any changes. However, developers are allowed to enhance their existing visionOS programs or even create brand-new ones. Early in 2024, the US will witness the launch of the $3,499 Apple Vision Pro.
