Apple has announced its intention to give $5 million worth grants to 4 historically Black universities. This is part of the mission of the Tech Company to aid the expansion of its engineering programs for chips designing that helps power electronic devices.
As announced by Apple, the $5 million will be shared amongst the following schools:
1. Alabama A&M University, Howard University, in Washington, DC
2. Morgan State University, in Baltimore
3. Prairie View A&M University, in Texas.
. This grant is derived from the tech company’s broader racial justice initiative which was announced last year with $100 million in initial funding will spread over a three-year duration.
Apple in a statement said: “The grants will support each school’s engineering departments and seek to focus expanding course work in fields like computing architecture and designing chips. The money will also support fellowships and internship in hardware technologies”.
Speaking further, the company’s Vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives, Lisa Jackson said in a statement:
“We know many jobs of the future will be in innovative areas like silicon engineering and we want to help ensure the leaders of tomorrow have access to transformational learning opportunities.”
Some of Apple’s custom designs include chips in central processors in its Mac computers, iPhone handsets and also some special chips found its Air Pods headphones. This will in turn help them to work smoothly with other tech devices manufactured from Apple. The stated are imbibed in all Apple’s flagship devices.
