Google’s flagship OS update Android 12 is still in its developing phase as a Beta version which comes with a new overhaul on its Quick Settings and Notification. While other significant designs rolled out alongside Android 12 first Beta version — Google focused its overhaul on the Phone app featuring on the status bar.
A chip that modifies “Ongoing call” just like the typical Android 12 Beta version, the chip is designed to be noticeably different from your background while the chip is designed to adapt to the solid colour of your wallpaper, which depicts its uniqueness from other content that displays on your screen.
Google placed this caller chip next to the default timer at the top-left of your status bar. For contrast, while a call is ongoing, the Phone app appears as a large pill while the time reads in the usual “XX:XX” format like every other call timer. The caller chip has a timer next to the default device time — it also has a phone icon in the large pill.
It is worth noting that this chip displays differently on your Quick Settings, it does not blend with the colour of the themed background. While the chip icon displays on your desktop screen, the theme appears to be darker than other app icons.
Remember the previous chip design that appears as a bubbled notification whereby if you pull down your notification you will notice a redesign that allows you to either mute an ongoing call or activates a call on speaker. While your call is ongoing, you can as well tap on the chip to open the default Google Phone app on full screen.
This new approach gives the bubbled notification less of a chance as it naturally fits into the status bar. You don’t need to swipe down the quick settings to access your bubble call alert, whereby you can simply click the chip on your status bar to view your call alert.
Several users have already witnessed the latest Beta version of the Google Phone app that features in the current Android 12. Note that this OS is still in its developing stage and it will be available for global use when Android 12 is due for release.
