While there are a number of different services available to deliver live content to consumers these days, Amazon Fire TV has a new feature that will bring it all into a single location.
Amazon, as announced in medium, the creation of a “Live” tab on all Fire devices and Fire TV edition smart TVs, which features live sports, news and channels from select OTT services, streaming apps, paid subscriptions and over-the-air antennas.
“We have created a single destination on your Fire TV on the ‘Live’ tab, which brings together your live sports, news, and channels from select OTT services, streaming apps (e.g. PlayStation Vue), paid subscriptions, and over-the-air antennas into one consolidated view. You’ll find the new ‘Live’ tab right next to ‘Home’ in the main navigation menu, and this new experience is available across all Fire TV devices and Fire TV Edition smart TVs” Amazon said in a statement on their site.
The top-level section “brings together your live sports, news, and channels from select OTT services, streaming apps (e.g. PlayStation Vue), paid subscriptions, and over-the-air antennas into one consolidated view.” The new feature works with Fire TV live TV integrated apps, which include Pluto TV, Red Bull TV, PlayStation Vue, Philo, and the Prime Video Channels feature. Fire TV Edition smart TVs and Fire TV Recast devices can also add antenna channels to the live tab.
The Live tab also will be populated with content from sports from such channels as HBO, Showtime, MLB.TV, NBA League Pass, PGA Tour Live and more — all of which happen to be channels to which you can subscribe directly as an Amazon Prime Video Channel. The features are found right next to the Home tab. When viewing the Live tab, it will show the most recent channels viewed across all of the integrated apps, have genre rows and rows for specific integrated apps or antenna channels. You’ll be able to customize the order of the channels in the dedicated rows by designating the most important ones as favorites, Amazon says.
Amazon will make the Live tab available for Fire TV customers in the next week. And the new experience is available across all Fire TV devices and Fire TV Edition smart TVs.
